Chris Hammacott…Chris trained and worked as a weaver for many years, specialising in wool rugs. Her work led her to exhibitions, shows and judging. She has been teaching a range of textiles for some 31 years, from embroidery and patchwork through to a variety of fabric colouring and decorating techniques. Best known for her Stumpwork techniques, her City and Guilds Stumpwork course was the first to be offered for distance learning. This has proved tremendously popular world wide, and Chris has been instrumental in introducing this style of embroidery to Mexico and South America through her work in Borda En Liston.

New Display ItemA keen 'de-bunker' of terminology, Chris's approach has been to make learning a fun, enjoyable experience. As she says "Too many people have been emotionally scarred through school needlework lessons, I have no wish to prolong the agony!"

Chris runs workshops across the country through Embroiderers Guilds and patchwork and quilting groups.

2011 sees the closure of the distance learning centre Chris has owned and run for many years, hopefully this will allow time to develop a new range of stumpwork kits and a series of distance learning master classes.

Check out the online quilt school 'Quilt Campus' that sees Chris as one of the first British tutors and the online quilt publication 'Quilt pattern Magazine' that has Chris feature monthly with her diary of a quilt tutors life.

Home is an old farmhouse in West Wales, which is shared with furniture maker husband Andrew and a menagerie of animals. Life in the office and attached workshop is busy with three pugs Pearl, Precious and Poppit who ensure a steady supply of biscuits!

Chris is on the Embroiderers Guild list of tutors, belongs to the Guild of Judges, Quilters Guild and the Batik Guild.
