Level 2, 7822 course
The
City & Guilds Level 2 Silk Painting course allows the participating student
to fully explore the joy of silk painting including gutta and textural work. However
the course takes you further still with work on velvet, devore and discharge as
well as Shibori lessons and taking your work into completed pieces both clothing
and soft furnishing. This
course although designed for fabric painters has also found favour with embroiderers
and patchworkers as well as clothe designers who appreciate the scope that it
offers to further create unique pieces of work. Method:

completion of this course to satisfactory standards, two certificates are awarded. Each
module is split into lessons, with each lesson consisting of notes, photographs
and where required step by step instructions. Included with each module is a question
and answer sheet as well as a check list, this ensures that students have completed
all of the work within the module prior to it being returned for assessment. Being
a distance learning scheme, students are able to communicate with the centre via
post, e-mail and telephone, or if possible students can attend one of our regular
workshops. Module
1- colour wheel work, colour combining for maximum impact. Watercolour wet
on wet, wet on dry, working to scale. Iron fix paints. Module
2- mark making techniques, printing on transparent fabrics, thickened colour,
mono printing, free gutta work, wax, gift tag, and design for a book cover or
cushion. Module
3- explore line and shape, serti work, steam fix dyes, print making, formal/informal
pattern, assessment piece. Module
4- surface texture, rubbings, string blocks, creating textural effects; salt,
sugar, alcohol, saline, water, Shibori resist techniques, design piece utilising
texture, painting a 40cm square with an even colour. Module
5- exploring surfaces on paper, clingfilm, bleach, stippling, spraying. Identifying
and using a range of silks, working with pile fabrics, devoré, discharge. Module
6- creating texture and form from paper, silk manipulation, use of coloured/metallic
gutta, transferring designs, assessment pieces 2 x 40cm to be presented as cushion
covers. Module
7- taking ideas/techniques developed in course and using them in specified
way, assessment piece 40x150 or 90cm square. Module
8- new directions, embellishments, lesson plans, developing to sell, designing
to a fit order, costings, evaluation of the course. |
