WELSH QUILTS

One of the reasons for moving to Wales was so that Chris could continue her love affair with Welsh quilts.

Already an avid collector, being now on the door step has led to the collection somewhat overflowing from the beds and linen closets that are the normal repository! So to save a deluge it has been agreed that some will be sold, on a regular basis, the first is on show here.

All are cleaned, and each has a very definite and personal charm. They are all old and bear the marks of a useful and full life.

Rasberry Quilt~This beautiful whole cloth quilt measures 168 X 205 cm.

A gorgeous raspberry on the topside and a soft apricot on the reverse. It has beautiful hand stitched quilting is quite complex patterns, with a very unusual central motif.

This is a real work of art, and although not easy to date, I would suggest around the 1920's. It has a couple of marks on the underside, but these do not obscure the beauty of this quilt.

Blues & Peach Quilt~The patchwork quilt is a whooping 180 x 180 cm square.

In a very pretty combination of print and plain cotton, the 'underside' is patched with a pretty blue square, where the quilter clearly ran out of the main fabric, I just know how she felt, as we have all done this at some time!!

This quilt is hand quilted with a sunny yellow thread, and dates from around the 1940's. It does have some marks, but so would you after so long. If you would like any more information, please feel free to e mail onadmin@ws-touchbase.com
